Michel Tirions

Michel Tirions (°1967) is a social worker and sociologist and has been working as a lecturer and researcher at the Social Work program of Artesis Plantijn University College in Antwerp since 2002. Previously he worked in Flanders and the Netherlands in special education, with people with disabilities and in integration work. His research focuses on the capability approach, professional and normative identity and theoretical assessment of social work practices. Through various international forums he is involved in the development and support of international networks and (research) projects.

His education focuses on the relationship between society and profession. He teaches Ethics in Social Work, Social Work as a Profession, International Social Work, Human Rights & Development and Social Work and Society. He is also active as a lecturer and academic assistant in the Social Work Master’s program at the University of Antwerp.
